Biography
Described by Joanna MacGregor CBE as "a pianist with great personality, conveying pleasure with the music, full of energy and affection." Yizhou Lu won high prizes at Santa Cecilia International Piano Competition, Conero International Piano Competition, American Classical Pianist International Piano Competition, London Youth Piano Competition, and many other major national competitions. He obtained a master's degree in Piano Performance from the Royal Academy of Music in London and was admitted to the Bard Conservatory of Music in New York for the Advanced Performance Diploma with a full scholarship.
Yizhou has performed in many world-renowned concert halls and festivals. In 2020, he performed Saint-Saëns Symphony No. 3 with the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra at the Oriental Art Center and gave a piano recital at the Steinway Hall in Shanghai. In 2019, he was invited to give a concert at the "Shanghai Spring" International Music Festival, the most famous and oldest Music Festival in China. He has also performed at Laeiszhalle Concert Hall in Hamburg, Duke’s Hall in London, London Steinway Hall, Wuxi Grand Theater, and Shanghai University Concert Hall. Yizhou studied under Professors Colin Stone and Mei-Ting Sun, and participated in master classes with world-renowned musicians, such as Christopher Elton, Adrian Brendel, Yevgeny Sudbin, Hung-kuan Chen, Ian Fountain, and was highly recognized.
Yizhou has a great enthusiasm for contemporary music, especially visual music multimedia technology. He studies contemporary piano performance and composition with George Fu and is committed to promoting contemporary piano music at home and abroad. Yizhou has also performed world premieres of the works of many modern composers, including Julia Han, George Fu, and Tiffany Qiu at the Duke’s Hall and Willesden Gallery in London, which have been widely acclaimed. Meanwhile, he is also keen on collaborating with vocals and instruments. In 2021, he was awarded the "Best Piano Accompaniment Award" by the Organizing Committee of the China Youth Music Competition.
In addition to performing, Yizhou is also a caring and professional piano teacher, piano scholar, and music public welfare practitioner. He was awarded the “Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music” (LRAM) in teaching. Several of his academic papers were included and published in the "China Music Education Conference", "Northern Music" and other journals. Yizhou was also awarded the "Music Public Welfare Marathon Honorary Certificate" by the President of Steinway Asia Pacific.
